The Top 10 Causes of Death
In 2021, the top 10 causes of death accounted for 39 million deaths, or 57% of the total 68 million deaths worldwide. The top global causes of death, in order of total number of lives lost, are associated with two broad topics: cardiovascular (ischaemic heart disease, stroke) and respiratory (COVID-19, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lower respiratory infections), with COVID-19 emerging as the second leading causes of death globally.
Will Life Insurance Be the Next Product to Go ‘Green’?
With so much consumer interest in healthy living and sustainability, will the life insurance industry begin to offer “green” life insurance? A panel of researchers gave their views during a recent Society of Insurance Research educational session. Studies have found a link between reduced carbon footprint activity and improved mortality risk, said Matt Berkley, director of strategic research with RGA Reinsurance.
High Interest Rates Put Chokehold on Whole Life in Flat Q2, LIMRA Says
Individual life insurance new annualized premium totaled $3.97 billion in the second quarter, level with prior-year results, according to LIMRA’s preliminary U.S. Life Insurance Sales Survey. Policy count was flat for the quarter. Year to date, new premium totaled $7.7 billion, down 1%, and the total number of policies sold was level with the prior year’s results.
