Are Kids Falling Behind on Oral Hygiene?

According to a recent national poll, over one-third of parents report their child has experienced cavities, stained teeth, gum issues, or tooth pain in the past two years. The primary culprit? Poor oral hygiene habits—many children do not brush their teeth and tongue the minimum required amount of twice a day. Additionally, more than a third of parents say their child struggles with bad breath, often a direct result of inadequate brushing and flossing. Encouraging routine cleanings and reinforcing the importance of daily brushing and flossing can help prevent these common issues while also allowing dentists to check for any early signs of tooth decay.

Smarter Surgery: How AI is Transforming Bone Evaluation

Two Texas A&M researchers recently received a grant to develop an AI-powered model for bone assessment. Using CBCT images and clinical data, the AI analyzes bone stiffness to improve implant and orthopedic surgery outcomes. Traditional methods, like biomechanical testing and indentation, can sometimes be inefficient or harmful. Integrating this AI model into procedure planning can reduce human error and implant failure while providing a non-invasive solution. Though some may be hesitant about replacing human analysis, this technology has the potential to enhance patient results and streamline surgical planning.
