An Unexpected Solution for Tooth Decay Researchers at Queen Mary University of London are developing an innovative dental treatment to protect teeth from decay and acid erosion. Utilizing flake glass technology—typically used to shield tanks, pipes, and steel bridges from corrosion—the researchers created Varnish VLC. Just like how metal structures rust when in contact with water, teeth corrode when exposed to acids. Varnish VLC not only mimics the natural appearance of enamel but also has outperformed traditional methods in, “both wear resistance and protection against acid erosion.” Scientists hope it will offer a minimally invasive, effective solution for those prone to tooth decay.
