Florida is a (Dental) Desert

Florida has introduced a new house bill allowing dental therapists to provide routine services under a dentist’s supervision. Unlike dentists, who complete eight years of schooling, dental therapists require only three years to become certified. The state faces a severe shortage of dental professionals, with two counties not having any dentists at all, making access to care difficult. According to the article, 14 other states have implemented similar laws allowing dental therapists to treat patients. This law could solve the dental staffing crisis in Florida, however, some dental associations are still skeptical about the quality of care and possible risks if this bill were to pass.
