A recent study found that consuming sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) daily can increase the likelihood of developing oral cavity cancer in women, a disease usually associated with smoking. Observing 162,602 women over 30 years, researchers found that individuals who consumed at least one sugar-sweetened beverage per day faced 5.46 times the risk of developing oral cavity cancer compared to those who consumed fewer than one per month. A separate study by the CDC says from 2011-2014, approximately 45% of women consumed at least one sweetened beverage on a given day, emphasizing the need for patient education. Dentists play a key role in raising awareness for issues like these, as well as encouraging good habits to help lower oral cancer risks.

Could parenting style be a key factor in improving children's dental experiences?
